Any suggestions?

We have a Wii, and those are the games I prefer. We do have a PS2, but it lives in my daughter's room at the moment. He likes adventure games where he has to find clues and solve puzzles and riddles and whatnot to advance. He loves (and has finished) Legend of Zelda, if that helps. He's not at all interested in sports games.

So help me, flist. What's awesome?

So I found this old one that my mom used for her dog years ago and it was the only one I had that would fit said Sheltie. Then, we were at the vet and it became apparent that it did not actually fit said Sheltie, so I looped the leash around itself to serve as collar and lead, and put the collar in my purse, where I discovered it still sits this morning.

Your turn!

Alternate for those who don't have purses/pockets/etc.: what's in your cashe right now?
Happy-making: my daughter emailed me a flyer she put together for the Coexist Club at school (it's like glee club, but with less singing and more treating people like actual human beings, apparently) and asked me to print out a few copies for her, and they flyers are for their movie night and they're showing The Laramie Project, and y'all, I'm just so proud of her right now. We butt heads a lot because we're pretty similar, and just this morning I sent her out to the bus with "You know what? Don't eat breakfast! Don't brush your hair! Don't wear a jacket. FREEZE for all I care!!!eleventy!!"** But the thing is, she's a good kid. She cares about things that are important, and she's doing something about it. <3

Crazy-making: I need a fandom for a show that has less skeevy gender/race/ability issues, y'all. It's kinda starting to wear me down a little bit. I need a show/books/movies/etc -- preferably genre, but at this point I'm not picky -- that treats people like human beings. I need a fandom where pointing out skeevy issues isn't immediately greeted with "GTFO IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT" or "IT'S JUST A SHOW." Is there such a show? Such a fandom?

**Okay, so not my best parenting moment ever.

There are hundreds of good shelters and rescue groups throughout the country who are larger, better organized and much better funded than we are and they have extensive mailing lists and paid marketing professionals to spread the word.
One of our adopters, a media consultant for a college in upstate New York, sent me the original link to the contest and encouraged me to participate. We sent a note out to our volunteers and adopters and to some of the poodle networking groups available, to let them know we could be voted for. There is a spot for voters to put comments. Some of our adopters started putting updates from their adopted dogs. That was a lot of fun to read and I was glad we had participated for that reason alone.
Then an amazing thing happened. We started creeping up the list. We were in the top 100 pretty quickly, then in the 50's, then up to 15. And before Friday was over, we were in the Top 5. It was incredible. I kept hitting refresh, thinking there had been a mistake. No mistake.
Could this tiny Southern based rescue compete with the big boys? Could a breed specific crowd come together for the love not just of animals but for a particular breed? Is it possible? I don't know - but we're wanting to try.

The big boys are the large municipal humane societies, the national groups and the shelters that are based in large geographic areas that have thousands of voters to contact. Their appeal is universal in trying to save as many as they can. Their marketing efforts are already in place. They can reach so many at the touch of a button. But people were voting for us. We don't have the population of an entire state to contact or a large and complex database of supporters throughout the nation. What we do have - is you. You are the everyday, ordinary poodle loving person or perhaps a friend of a poodle loving person. You may also be somebody who likes to root for the underdog. Our volunteers are now emailing this message to breeders, groomers and poodle lovers throughout the country, asking you to please consider voting for our shelter and to pass this message on to your friends, your customers, your neighbors and to any others you know who care about poodles or like to see the little guy win. We are the only poodle specific group in the top 100. Many of our fellow poodle rescuers throughout the US have thrown their votes in to us - and I thank them again for their vote of confidence in giving up voting for their own rescue to lend us their support. So even though you may be far off from us, or you may be a breeder who is active with your own rescue program, would you consider giving us your vote if your group is not in the running? No money necessary, just a few minutes of your time to click and to vote. You can only vote once. http://www.care2.com/animalsheltercontest/We are currently #3 but there are others gaining votes much faster than we are. Before this is over on December 9th, I know we will need many thousands votes to be successful.

“Who are you,” you may be asking yourself. To find out more about Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org. You can read the stories and follow the links. We have pictures and videos on flickr, youtube, facebook, my space and twitter to show you who we are and what we do.

Our budget is small - under $200,000 per year. We take in and place 40 to 50 poodles and poodle mixes a month. Our dogs come from many sources. Some are from owners whose lives have changed due to death or illness and can not take care of their beloved pets. They come from traditional shelters and animal control facilities where they were either found as strays or turned in for any number of reasons. Reputable breeders whose main emphasis is on placing puppies reach out to us for assistance in placing adult dogs, knowing we have a large pool of qualified adult dog homes. We take in dogs from commercial breeding facilities chosing to send their adult dogs to a new life and asking us to help.

$10,000 goes a long way when you're tiny but trying harder. It's a new twist on the ant and the rubber tree story. Since nobody so far said "you can't" then - maybe we can! Can you help?

Thanks..from all of us at Dreamweaver Farms
Donna Ezzell
Dreamweaver Farms, home of Carolina Poodle Rescue

Y'all know I almost never do this, but this group means a lot to me and they need help. The poodle rescue group that I volunteer with is entered in a contest for some nice cash prizes. They really need the help right now -- with the economy being so crappy, their adoptions are way down and their requests to take in dogs (not just poodles!) are way, WAY up. If you could just take a couple of minutes and vote for Carolina Poodle Rescue, I'd really appreciate it (and you can do so anonymously.) I made it through the first three books in Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series -- barely. Went back and re-read the beginning of the first book and wow, this guy is a crappy writer. His secondary characters are all one-note, good or evil, no shades of gray in sight, and talk about anvil-icious! Dude makes Kripke and his writing staff look positively subtle. And do not get me started on his treatment of women in his books. Rowr. D:<

The series, while being somewhat heavy on the cheese factor, has so far been wonderfully fun, due in large part to the two leads, Bridget Regan and Craig Horner (also, Craig Parker OM NOM NOM.)
Nov. 5th episode of Supernatural (5X08) SPOILERS

First of all, I want to say that I hope no one who was given the chance to screen this episode early will reveal too much. This is definitely an episode where a lot of the fun comes from experiencing it without knowing everything in advance.

That said, if you watched the preview after last night's episode, nothing I say here will spoil you. :)

Just to be safe, though: IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE, THERE ARE MILD SPOILERS HERE including guest actors (revealed in the previews last night.)

Summary from The CW and WB:

“Changing Channels” airs Thurs., 11/5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) find themselves living their lives on what appear to be TV shows, it makes for a whole new style of reality television and they wonder if the Trickster (guest star Richard Speight, Jr.) is to blame. From a sitcom to a soapy hospital drama to a Japanese game show to a crime procedural, each new experience they encounter is more bizarre than the next and they want out. But is the Trickster really the mastermind behind the madness? Also starring Misha Collins as ‘Castiel.’ “Changing Channels” was written by Jeremy Carver and directed by Charles Beeson.

One of the things Supernatural does very well when the show is firing on all cylinders is continuity. There's something so satisfying for a fan about seeing a show pick up threads from previous episodes and previous seasons, you know? We see that continuity in "Changing Channels" with the return of one of my favorite characters, The Trickster. (Seriously, ask the people I chat with during the episodes and they'll tell you that I pretty much ALWAYS guess that the Trickster is behind whatever mystery Sam & Dean are facing that week. Because I LOFF HEEEM.)

The Trickster episodes also tend to be some of the best episodes of the series, as well as some of the funniest, which is another reason I'm glad to see him again. The last time we saw him was in "Mystery Spot," in which the Trickster killed off Dean in dozens of inventive ways, forcing Sam to live it over and over again. The Trickster isn't just evil, though -- we've always been told that he torments people either because they deserve it or to teach them some sort of lesson. He's definitely more shades of gray than he is evil or good.

So, next week's episode! I'm not going to spoil because, seriously, you'll want to get the full experience on this one. I'm just going to say the following:

1. There are some funny parts, including a few digs at the show's Thursday night competition.

2. There are some sort of cringe-worthy moments. Thankfully, those moments are intentionally cringe-worthy.

3. There are quite a few memorable lines, and some great icons will come from this episode.

4. Perhaps more importantly from a fannish perspective, there will be a lot of fun fanfic from this episode.

5. The episode's music made me go, "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAH!!!1!!" in a way that has not happened since "Nightshifter."

6. Don't change channels during commercials. 'Nuff said.

In conclusion, you will not want to miss this episode. :D

Ugh, I'm a bad fan, but I just watched next Thursday's Supernatural episode ahhhhhhhhhhhhh and I need to know what episode number it is so I can talk about it asdfjkl;asdfjkl;asjdfkl;

Non-spoilery reaction: I really, really loved it. It's the first episode in a long time that I can't wait to watch again, which I think speaks volumes right there.

Edit: It's 5X08.

If you don't know the general gist of the episode, don't click.

Got this from write_light, who got it from andreas_ri.

So, what's the first thing YOU notice about this picture?

LOL THERE ARE LOTSA GUYS AT THE SUPERNATURAL CON LOL.

Actually...there are almost NO women in the audience. Weird!

I can't decide if that's Kripke being petulant that his show's fans are largely female, or something unrelated, like, say, all the female extras were otherwise employed that day. HMM.

I really, really think I'm going to want to die a lot when this airs.
