FAIL: Comedian Jim Norton, staying at the same hotel where Supernatural fans are gathered for Wincon, tweets, "The hotell is full of obese women who blog about ghost stories. Feels more like a herd than a convention. Fat bloggers. Yuck and yuck." Screencap is here in case the asshole deletes it.

Edit, via [info]calicokat, Norton has a history of wanky fannish behavior.

Edit II: is that a Don Imus shirt Norton is wearing here? That explains a lot.

WIN: Awesomesauce that makes up for aforementioned fail: Someone on Twitter dared Traci Dinwiddie to sing "Crazy" like Elmer Fudd:

Oh Em Gee. Ron just reminded me of this song, and I hadn't even THOUGHT of it in like a million years, and I LOVE EEET! Yeah, I know, can't take the Country out of the girl, I know. But when my sister and I were teeny girls, my mom LOVED this song, and she played it ALL THE TIME and we'd all sing along and ♥

So, naturally, youtube has a ton of versions, so I'm sharing a couple, and I DARE YOU not to love this song. SRSLY.

Here's another version -- Tanya Tucker singing it on Hee Haw at age 13. I don't like her singing style as much, but it's still awesome. :D

Also: I have finished my class. SMEAGOL IS FREEEE!

From HERE.

By simply forcing McCain to work for North Carolina — and spend money here — Obama has already done more than some people in the state expected when the campaign first announced it would make North Carolina a priority. But it’s quite possible Obama will manage much more than that. One recent poll by a Democratic firm showed Obama winning the 828 area code, which covers the western part of the state. That one was probably a bit of an outlier, though. “If he does that in western North Carolina, this might be a slam-dunk,” Rep. Mel Watt, a Democrat who represents Greensboro, said with a laugh.

Western NC! Outlier or not, that's my area! \o/

If Obama wins NC, it'll be the first time the state has gone Democratic since 1976 and Jimmy Carter! Dude, this thrills me. Even if it means I have to deal with non-stop political advertisements and five political calls per day (no kidding).

Football: Albia Player Scores Touchdown of a Lifetime

The junior varsity football team at PCM-Monroe gave an opponent a moment in glory toward the end of the team’s game on Monday night. Leading 39-0 toward the end of the game, Albia sophomore Kyle Weiss returned a fumble sixty yards for a touchdown that prevented his team from being shut out.

Weiss, a special needs student at Albia, scored as teammates and opponents stayed out of the way, so he could have a “moment in the sun.” PCM quarterback Brandon Kain said both sides agreed to have the ball come loose in front of Weiss and stayed away as he scored the touchdown.

"You hear about people doing this kind of stuff all the time," Kain told the Des Moines Register newspaper. "I thought it would be kind of cool to let him have a time of his life, because I guarantee that doesn't happen that often for him."

PCM players give Albia safety thrill of a lifetime

The junior varsity football team at PCM of Monroe gave up a shutout against Albia on Monday night, in order to let a special needs student have the memory of a lifetime.

Kyle Weiss, an Albia sophomore safety, returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown on the final play of a 39-6 loss at Monroe.

The fumble was by PCM quarterback Brandon Kain. Both sides agreed to have the ball come loose in front of Weiss and for everyone to stay out of his way en route to the end zone.

"You hear about people doing this kind of stuff all the time," Kain said. "I thought it would be kind of cool to let (Weiss) have a time of his life, because I guarantee that doesn't happen that often for him."

Kain said he learned about Weiss during an extended timeout while PCM player Wyatt Lagergren was being treated for a broken ankle late in the fourth quarter. Kain said the officials talked about how Weiss had been in on a tackle and felt pretty good about it.

Albia coach Jerry Staton said thought was given to ending the game early. He said the PCM players resisted because they had one special play left in them, and he loved the ending.

"He ran into the end zone, and both teams cheered," he said. "They could have had a shutout, but they proved they were more than champions because to give up that shutout to let this kid have an experience of his lifetime was pretty neat."

Kain said the PCM players also enjoyed the moment.

"I'm speaking for the whole team. After that I felt really, really good inside and I know all the other teammates did too," Kain said. "You can have a really good performance and stuff, but you always consider it a really good game if you come out of it feeling like a better person. That's what happened to us."

Aww, itty bitty rock stars.

Seriously not bad for a group of 13-year-olds. Dean would so approve.

SPN-SE3-DVD-0003

If this is what it looks like and WB is actually going to include a model Impala with season 3 DVD sets, I have three thoughts. 1) It's an awesome idea from a promotional standpoint, 2) I WANT ONE and 3)...but that's not THE Impala. :( It'd be a whole lot more exciting to me if it was a 4-door. And, you know, had actual side mirrors. O_o

In general, though, I'm leaning towards numbers 1 and 2. :)

Edit: IMPORTANT! Please read the comments below BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD. Apparently, the new version does not support many extensions, and it looks like once you've installed it, you can't choose to go back to the old version.

Download Day

It's Download Day 2008, the day Firefox 3 is available for free download, and Firefox is trying to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. At the time of this writing, Firefox had been downloaded over 7 million times. Firefox's website says version 3 has over 15,000 improvements over the last version. I can't wait to check out the new bells and whistles.

To take part in the world record attempt, Firefox asks that you download "by 11:16 a.m. PDT (18:16 UTC) on June 18, 2008. That's 11:16 a.m. in Mountain View, 2:16 p.m. in Toronto, 3:16 p.m. in Rio de Janeiro, 8:16 p.m. in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Rome and Warsaw, 10:16 p.m. in Moscow, and June 19, 2008 at 2:16 a.m. in Beijing and 3:16 a.m. in Tokyo."

Is anyone already using version 3? What do you think of it so far?
