Edit II: is that a Don Imus shirt Norton is wearing here? That explains a lot.
WIN: Awesomesauce that makes up for aforementioned fail: Someone on Twitter dared Traci Dinwiddie to sing "Crazy" like Elmer Fudd:
Dear Hollywood:
JSYK, many of us are taking notes. For myself, I can tell you that the movies, television and other art forms that I will be watching and supporting in the future are being determined right now. If you think a man who raped a child should not have to pay for his crimes, I have no use for you or any entertainment of yours that may be offered from now on.
JSYK.
Watching what you are doing there,
Me.

The difference being, of course, that Supernatural is on The CW, where 2.8 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at, and Dollhouse is on Fox, where execs are no doubt sneezing their heads off at this very moment.
Honestly, Dollhouse deserves to be cancelled. Even coming from a background of loving a lot of Joss's previous work, I really didn't like this show. My only regret at this point is that ( cut in case someone hasn't seem the last two episodes ) But as someone on Twitter said, Dollhouse may be Joss's Ishtar. It had promise, it had buzz. It even had the automatic adoration of the Joss faithful, and it still...well, sucked.
This whole thing has already gotten nastier than most of the Wincest/anti-Wincest wank. If the situation actually does come to fruition, this fandom is going to explode.
"It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union."
-Susan B. Anthony
"That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain't I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me! And ain't I a woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man - when I could get it - and bear the lash as well! And ain't I a woman? I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery, and when I cried out with my mother's grief, none but Jesus heard me! And ain't I a woman?"

I am invincible
I am woman."

"Those pilgrim women who ...
Who braved the boat
Could cook the turkey, but they ...
They could not vote.
Even Betsy Ross who sewed the flag was left behind that first election day.(What a shame, Sisters!)
Then Susan B. Anthony (Yeah!) and Julia Howe,
(Lucretia!) Lucretia Mott, (and others!) they showed us how;
They carried signs and marched in lines
Until at long last the law was passed.Oh, we were suffering until suffrage,
Not a woman here could vote, no matter what age,
Then the 19th Amendment struck down that restrictive rule. (Oh yeah!)"

First of all, just.../why/? It's fanfic. It's not nearly as interesting to them as it is to us. And if they /did/ want to read it, well, it's pretty easily accessible all over the place. Also, appointing yourself the judge of what's the best fanfic = recipe for disaster.
And, you know, I get not wanting to send TPTB Wincest and slash, but if you're going to exclude those because you want to keep it as close to canon as possible, I'd say you'd better exclude all AUs and anything rated above PG13 (since the show itself is rated TV-14.)
But in general, just...gah, no. Fanfic is for the fans, full stop.
uncomfortableYesterday, CNN apparently ran a panel on whether calling Hillary Clinton a "white bitch" is appropriate.

Speaking of Hey! Nielsen, I'm pretty much fed up with the Moonlight, Journeyman and Blood Ties fans and their spammy posting. Now I know how people felt about Supernatural and Jericho fans before we got a clue, I suppose. The difference is that SPN and Jericho fandoms did get a clue, and got the word out about how the site is meant to be used. The current big three don't seem to have gotten the memo -- or maybe they're just ignoring the memo altogether. They seem to be under the delusion that if they post enough, their show's network will sit up and take notice and renew/uncancel the show. I highly doubt it. The networks aren't going to pay attention, I would wager, until at least after the site's out of beta and has built up a significantly larger user base. They don't give a crap what 25 fans think, people.
There's talk of people creating sockpuppet accounts to post with, especially now that the site is limiting people to one opinion per day on any given subject. Nielsen's got to get a handle on that, or the site's never going to be a legitimate place to gather information.
I think the real value of Hey!Nielsen at this point is the opportunity to win new fans over to your show. The people who are there now are already predisposed to online fandoms, so half the battle is won. But spammy posting is not going to win over fans -- it's going to piss them off. Personally, I've never watched Blood Ties, but I can tell you this much -- now I never will. And I watched an ep or two of Journeyman and Moonlighting, there's very little chance I'll ever watch more. So, fans of these shows, you've blown the very real possibility that I might become another fan to bolster your numbers. And I would've been easy to win over. I'm a fan of genre stuff. I love vampires. But the Hey! Nielsen experience is frustrating when you've got to wade through several dozen versions of "best. show. evar." or (my personal favorite) "[favorite vampire] can suck me anytime!!!!!"
Yeah.
On a much more pleasant subject, I got a letter from Eric Kripke today. And by "letter", I mean some assistant fed my name and address into a Word mail merge with a canned 'thanks for writing' letter and Kripke signed it. But it's making me gleeful nonetheless, because he didn't have to go to the trouble of having his assistant feed me into the mail merge and send the response out to me with the pre-printed autographed picture of the boys, but he did. And that's just one more reason that Kripke pwns us all.
Top guild sources tell me they were “deliberately duped” by the moguls in a backchannel deal to bring the guild back to the bargaining table Sunday. They say the lure was a promise by two Big Media CEOs --Peter Chernin and Les Moonves -- that, if the writers gave up their DVD residual demands, then the producers would respond by improving the formula on the central sticking issue of Internet downloads for movies and television. My producer sources confirmed to me such a deal was indeed made. In other words, it could have been possible that a settlement might be only days or a week away, with enough progress to induce the writers side to suspend the Monday start of the strike.
The writers say they kept up their end by dropping their DVD demands– a huge concession which later puzzled the WGA membership because it seemed to come out of nowhere and had to be explained by WGA president Patric Verrone without revealing the whole backstory. Why didn’t he? Because the WGA says it was abiding by the “mutual pledge of confidentiality” with AMPTP that, for the first time in all the negotiations, applied to Sunday’s session. Today, sources there decided to spill to me because the writers’ side of the 11th hour talks story has gone untold. The WGA accuses the producers of not delivering on the all-important electronic sell-through issue all day Sunday. And the producers confirm to me that, no, their negotiators did not offer anything on "EST". So, according to guild sources, that’s the real reason the 12:01 AM strike wasn’t averted, and their dropped DVDs demands put back on the table.
As a spitting mad WGA leader put it to me today: “All I can say is,if someone calls me and says, “You do X, and I do Y” and that someone doesn’t do it, then I’ve been lied to and I’ve been played. It’s a complete betrayal. I just don’t know what the studios’ game is.”
More about "The Seven Deadly Sins" later. I have a nasty migraine-like headache going on, so the thought processes are not really what they should be.
Can I just say that the most recent spoilers about Ruby have me going "nanny nanny boo-boo!" and sticking out my virtual tongue to all the naysayers? KRIPKE PWNS U ALL. Seriously, though, I knew Kripke would come up with a way to make this awesome, and as usual, he doesn't disappoint.
Anyway, seems my Gamecocks played a football game. LAST NIGHT. ON TELEVISION. PEOPLE. WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS? The world is fired. Though, come to think of it, it was on opposite Supernatural, which would've only caused me angst and internal conflict, so. And hey, we won! Against Kentucky, dude. :D
I am aching to write up a meta on my take on Dean's "screwed in the head"-ness. Because, seriously? SCREWED IN THE HEAD.
Question: What's the difference between Steve Spurrier and God?
Answer: God doesn't think he's Steve Spurrier. :D
I do not want to do data entry today. Like, at all. Please try not to be too shocked.
Edit: And is it me, or is it just rude to post to a community that you're starting up an "alternate" community to be a "safe-haven to discuss and share our nontraditional thoughts on autism to augment communities where we are the minority"? 'Cause it sure seems rude to me. Also, I'm highly, highly amused that there are replies to that post that the comm is too pro-cure, that it's too anti-cure, and that it's 50-50. So, does that mean we're all equally oppressed there, or what?
And of course, if I say 'hey, this is kinda rude, don't you think?' I'm OMG EVIL FASCIST NEPOTISTIC H0R. Or something.
Edit the Second: Hmm. Perhaps it's ye olde paranoia, but I do find it highly interesting that the person who joined the comm almost immediately after I banned the person last week? Used the same somewhat unusual expression the banned person used. And has that person on her flist. Could there be sockpuppetry afoot? Wonder if she knows that can get her TOSsed from LJ?
